MEDIA ADVISORY

At 11:37 a.m. Evergreen Fire Dispatch Center issued a report of a possible wildland fire at 5924 S. Highway 67. Multiple agencies mobilized fire crews. The first to arrive was North Fork Volunteer Fire Department, Brush Truck 448 at 12:05 p.m. North Fork confirmed that a fire of approximately 1/4 acre was burning in grass and moving quickly up the south-facing slope of a steep hillside. One structure was threatened.

Within minutes, resources from the U.S. Forest Service and Mountain Communities Volunteer Fire Department were on scene. Personnel and equipment from the three responding agencies were combined. US Forest Service Wildland Fire Module 11 led the initial attack. Hose lines were extended around the perimeter of the fire to establish a "wet containment line," while trenches were dug along steep slopes to prevent hot material from rolling down the hillside. Due to the fast response and aggressive initial attack, the fire was contained at approximately 1/2 acre. Once the risk of fire spread was mitigated, the crews transitioned from initial attack to containment and mop-up.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Inter-Canyon Fire Department, and the Elk Creek Fire Department provided additional support. Firefighters will continue to monitor the fire area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
