MMT Weather: URGENT - Severe Thunderstorm Watch Until 9:00 PM

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the Colorado Front Range Foothills and the Denver Metro area. This will be in effect until 9:00 p.m. Per our analysis, the biggest threats will be large hail, damaging straight-line wind gusts over 60 mph, brief heavy rainfall and dangerous lightning. If you are going to be outdoors this afternoon or tonight, be prepared to take shelter if threatening weather approaches. Thunderstorms will remain a hazard for most of the foothills into this evening. Storms will be moving generally northeasterly. We may get frequent lightning with some of these storms, which is extremely dangerous if you are outside. Have a plan in place where you can get to a safe shelter, preferably on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Do not stand under trees for protection. Heavy rain could cause localized flash flooding.
