Lightning Safety Tips

Hiking season and outdoor activities are in full-swing in the Colorado foothills and mountains. Among the top weather-hazards is lightning. As your official Weather Ready Nation Ambassador, and Meteorologist, I'm passing along some information about the different types of lightning. Remember the 30/30 rule: If you see lightning, start counting. If you don't get to 30 seconds before hearing thunder, the lightning is too close and you need to get indoors. Also, wait 30 minutes after the last rumble of thunder before resuming outside activities. -Steve Hamilton.
