At a community meeting held Sunday at 10 a.m., the Sheriff's Office said the fire has NOT reached anything in Park County, nor are the Fossil Beds in the path of the fire. Colorado Springs firefighters are in the area assisting local crews with two Type 6 engines and a battalion chief.

Chateau Fire
Teller County Commissioners accompanied Chateau Fire Public Information Officers during the day and had face to face conversations with some of the local residents impacted by the fire and evacuations.

The Teller County Sheriff's Department is now allowing some residents into the evacuation zones to return to their homes. The Park County Sheriff has allowed all those evacuated to return. They also reopened all the county roads surrounding the fire. The subdivision roads that lead into the burn perimeter are still closed, as evacuation of those residents are still in place.

A Disaster Assistance Center has been established to help those reentering their residence within the fire. The event begins Thursday from 10-6 at the Summit Elementary School in Divide, Colorado and will continue for several days. More information on the event can be found on the Teller County website and Teller County Sheriff's Facebook page

Chateau Fire Update July 4, 2018 pm

The Chateau Fire is now 75% contained. The firing operations which went well last night allowed the crews to cool the area along the blackened line in Division B. Two crews of firefighters in Division E were able to shore up along the line in the northwest corner. Division J continued to work the northeast line, but pockets of heat concentration are still present in the interior. Mid-day, two Type II crews in Division X arrived to improve and secure line around structures. Northern portions of the fire got signficiant moisture in the form of rain and hail for at least 30 minutes around 6 pm. Aerial support responded to the Division requests for water drops throughout the day.
The size of the fire is estimated to be the same as yesterday, 1423 acres.

Today's briefing at 1 PM will be the last briefing for the Chateau Fire and no more meetings with the PIO. — feeling thankful

Chateau Fire Update July 5, 2018 pm

Operations benefitted from the weather today and the Chateau Fire is now 91% contained. Mild fire behavior along the fire’s edge made securing the line quick and affective. Higher humidity, cool temperatures and cloud cover also quickened the mop-up of the pockets of remaining heat in the understory. Division X line is contained but portions of the Division J line still need more work. The north end of the fire received rain this afternoon. The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team will be gradually demobilizing personnel on the fire and will aid the local resources in the transition. Many of the fire resources will be heading to the Weston Pass Fire to assist.

The size of the fire is estimated to be the same as yesterday, 1423 acres.

Eight bear proof dumpsters will be placed at strategic locations in the affected subdivisions. These will be available to help with clean up. For more detailed evacuation information, please continue to refer to the Teller County Sheriff’s Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/tellersheriff or the Teller County Sheriff’s website at: www.tellercountysheriff.com

Total personnel: 188
Estimated Containment Date: Saturday July 07th, 2018 approx. 12:00 AM
Cause: Under Investigation

Chateau Fire Update July 6, 2018 pm

The Chateau Fire is now 95% contained. Firefighters spent most the day scouting for hot spots and interacting with the residents returning to their homes. Many thanks were exchanged throughout the day and some residents posted signs on their homes.

"A few smoking hot spots were found and were mopped up, but not many," said Todd Abel, Operations Sections Chief. Firefighters spent most of their time patrolling the subdivisions to ensure all the homes were safe.

The Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team is gradually demobilizing personnel on the fire, sending several resources to the North Spring and Weston Pass Fires. After today, local firefighters will take over command of the Chateau Fire.
