Here we go... Passenger Vehicle Traction Law enacted on I-70 from Bakerville (mp 221) to Silverthorne (morning 205) and Copper Mtn (mp 195) to Vail (mp 178). Must have 4WD, adequate snow tires or chains. CMV Chain Law probably will follow soon, especially Loveland Pass. S1

Passenger vehicle traction law
  • CO 9 in both directions between MM 73 and MM 80 (Hoosier Pass).
  • US 6 in both directions between MM 220 and MM 229 (Loveland Pass).
Passenger vehicles are required to have mud or snow tires or use chains or alternative traction devices or be a four wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle.

Commercial vehicle chain law
  • CO 9 in both directions between MM 73 and MM 80 (Hoosier Pass).
Chains or alternative traction devices required for all commercial motor vehicles including buses and vans of 16 or more passengers.

  • US 285 Southbound / Northbound Kenosha Pass (Milemarker 183-211)
  • US 285 Southbound / Northbound between Pine Jct. and Morrison (Milemarker 229-250)
Passenger vehicles are required to have snow or mud/snow tires, use chains/alternative traction devices, or a 4WD/AWD vehicle

Commercial chain law
  • I-70 Eastbound Vail to Vail Pass Summit (Milemarker 178-190)
  • US 285 Southbound / Northbound Kenosha Pass (Milemarker 183-211)
  • US 285 Southbound / Northbound between Pine Jct. and Morrison (Milemarker 229-250)
  • CO 9 Southbound / Northbound Hoosier Pass (Milemarker 73-80)
Chains or alternative traction devices (ATDs) required for all CMV, including busses and vans of 16+ capacity.

Jefferson County is now on accident alert.

This means that until further notice, CSP will respond only to accidents with injuries, accidents involving disabled vehicles due to damage, accidents with damage to public property, accidents involving DUIs and hit and run accidents.

For all other accidents, please report the incident at the nearest CSP office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or online at www.colorado.gov/csp

I-70 EB: Commercial vehicle chain law lifted between MM 178 and MM 190.

Hwy 285 Passenger Traction and Commercial Chain Law from Kenosha Pass (MM 211) to Fairplay (Mile Marker 183) extended to Red Hill Pass at Mile Marker 162.

US 285 in both directions between FS Rd 56 (Kenosha Pass) and Wandcrest Av (1 mile south of Pine Junction). Passenger vehicles are required to have mud or snow tires or use chains or alternative traction devices or be a four wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle. Adverse Conditions.

Comment: TRACTION LAW IN EFFECT FOR PASSENGER VEHICLES from mm 203 to mm 228 icy conditions use caution
