A lightning strike started a wildfire on Snowshoe Road near Bluebell Ln in Evergreen. Active flames, firefighters are requesting 4 additional personnel.
Tree One : Yesterday during the thunderstorms EFR responded to a 3’ X 3’ fire started by a lightning strike off of Silverhorn Lane. FIre was at the base of the Ponderosa Pine and there was a bark debris field 50‘ around the tree. EFR quickly put out the fire and everyone is safe.
Tree Two: Today, EFR responded to a fire off of Snowshoe Road that was also caused by yesterday's storm. During the same thunderstorm yesterday lightning struck a different tree and caused the slash leftover from property mitigation to smolder. One of the homeowners smelled smoke mid morning and neighbors saw smoke at about the same time. This morning the smoldering fuels ignited quickly burning a 20’ X 20’ area of ground. EFR personnel responded quickly, put out the fire and all are safe.
Yesterday’s lightning strike was quickly apparent as the fuels quickly caught fire. Today’s fire was caused by lightning that struck a tree yesterday and smoldered all night only to ignite today.
The moral of the tale of two trees is when you see fire, a smoke plume or just smell smoke dial 911.
