We have crews on scene of a small grass fire near Lockheed Martin. Fire is about two football fields in size, no structures are threatened. Crews with @SouthMetroPIO are assisting.

There are two helicopters working the fire south of Lockheed Martin. A weather front has moved in and it is raining in the area. There are about 50 firefighters on scene. The cause of the fire was lightning.

Waterton Canyon closed for recreation

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — June 25, 2019 — 2:15 p.m.: Waterton Canyon is closed to public access until further notice to allow fire officials to work a fire near the base of the canyon.

Denver Water will continue to work with fire officials to evaluate the conditions and make a determination on when the canyon is safe to reopen for recreation.

The three acre fire near Lockheed Martin and Waterton Canyon is 50% contained tonight. As the sun sets, firefighters will pack it in, and be back on the scene to continue digging fire line in the morning.

Per West Metro Fire 12:19pm:
The fire near Waterton Canyon and just south of the Lockheed Martin facility is now 100% contained. @COStateFire's MMA (multi-mission aircraft) flew over the burn area last night, and mapped the total area burned at 2 1/2 acres. Cause of the fire was lightning.
