Wildland fire in Clear Creek Canyon - Bald Mountain Fire

20 Sep 2019 15:15 #1 by MountainTownAlerts
Still trying to pinpoint the fire exactly, somewhere northeast of Alt Mountain, 267 and Huntsman south side of the highway 6. Crews are shutting down Clear Creek Canyon and requesting helicopter support. Have fire crews from Foothills Fire and Fairmont Fire. Will call Genesee, Evergreen Fire, Indian Hills and Inter-Canyon for assistance.

MMA is in the air.

Fire is moving south/southwest, sometimes being blown east with the wind, and torching in trees flame lengths 1-1.5 foot long. Size of the fire estimated at about an acre. Seems to be slowing down where there's a meadow with open land that they can access it from underneath.

So that’s what I’m seeing (I am in Stapleton, for reference)

There was some concern that there was two fires, but crews are only seeing one fire near Clear Creek Canyon, north of Golden Gate Canyon.

Per scanner: fire is approximately 3 acres in size, running in brush, grass and timber, and into a drainage ditch. Spread potential high. Ordering more resources. Flames continue to move south and east, approximately 50 ft tall at this point.

Edit to add: winds picking up, ~20mph moving from north to south. Flame front about 200ft long, flames reaching 20' high.

2nd update: requesting Evergreen Fire send a Type 6 engine with crew to staging location at Ralston Elem. Closing Lookout Mountain Trail from Lookout Mountain Nature Center.

Spot fire NW of the big one 500-600 yards down the canyon, approx 50'x50', not growing fast, smoldering.

Requesting a Type 6 from Coal Creek in Boulder, chopper is inbound to SW flank. SEAT also en route.
