Red Flag Warning, Air Quality Alert for June 17, 2020

16 Jun 2020 21:42 #1 by MountainTownAlerts

From Chief Meteorlogist Steve Hamilton:
Warm And Breezy Wednesday, Then A Cold Front Arrives...
High pressure will stick around for one more day, with warm and breezy conditions expected on Wednesday. Late Wednesday, a cold front will approach from the northwest, moving across the foothills. Moist air will come in behind the cold front, with increasing clouds Wednesday night. By Thursday, temperatures will decrease a bit, with cooler high pressure entering the state. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible by Thursday afternoon. Cooler temperatures prevail on Friday, with pretty good chances of precipitation through Friday afternoon. Enough moist air should linger into the weekend to provide a few afternoon showers or thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday.

...OZONE ACTION DAY ALERT FROM 400 PM TUESDAY UNTIL 400 PM WEDNESDAY...

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued the following...

WHAT...Ozone Action Day Alert.

WHERE...Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld Counties

WHEN...400 PM Tuesday June 16 to 400 PM Wednesday June 17

IMPACTS...Ozone Action Day Alert is now in effect for the Front Range Urban Corridor. Requests to limit driving of non-ZEV vehicles (i.e., gas or diesel) are now in effect until at least 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2020. The presence of widespread wildfire smoke throughout the state, along with light winds and abundant sunshine, is expected to result in concentrations of ozone that are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups on Wednesday. Concentrations of ozone in the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category are most likely for locations in the western portions of the Denver Metro area, as well as northward along the Front Range and lower foothills to include western portions of Boulder, Longmont, and Fort Collins. For areas included in this advisory that are not expected to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups (USG) air quality designation, we request that activities, such as driving non-ZEV vehicles (i.e., gas or diesel), be reduced to lessen the impacts on neighboring air quality. Additional air pollution in this region may directly worsen air quality or contribute to precursors which may also adversely affect air quality.
