Polis Declares A Statewide Open Fire Ban For 30 Days As Wildfires Rage On
By Alison Borden, CPR | August 18, 2020

As four major wildfires scorch more than 130,000 acres of Colorado, Gov. Jared Polis issued a statewide ban on open fires.

Amid hot weather and a late summer monsoon that failed to appear, many places in Colorado had already issued local bans on campfires and fireworks, and other sources of fire, like smoking on the open.

The statewide ban will be in effect for 30 days.

Given the continued fire risk in the State & the continued strain on government resources due to COVID-19, the Fire Ban Executive Order-ordering the temporary suspension of statute concerning bans on open burning, has been extended for an additional 30 days, to October 7 2020. Reminder! Statewide fire restrictions are no longer in effect. Executive Orders (EO) 168 and 190 have expired as of September 30, 2020

Currently, EO 210, is in effect. This EO gives counties additional flexibility to implement fire restrictions outside of traditional high fire danger criteria in statute. It expires on November 4, 2020, unless extended.
