USFS Pile Burns in Shawnee and Lake George January 25, 2022

1. Fire crews on the South Platte Ranger District will be burning piles along the Colorado Trail near the Shinglemill trailhead and at AG Ranch along highway 285 in Shawnee, CO #SouthPlatteRD

2. South Park Ranger District fire personnel are planning to burn slash piles about 8 miles SW of Lake George tomorrow Jan. 25. The piles are from fuels mitigation thinning work. The planned pile burn area SW of Lake George is located by County Road 98 and CR 100. Ignition would start approximately mid morning and smoke will be highly visible for the first couple hours, then dissipate quickly afterwards. units 5&6 on the map will be targeted. #LkGeoRx

Patrol conducted by: Mod 11 / Engine 11-2

Acres Burned checked: 5 Acres: AG Ranch / 7 Acres: Colorado Trail

Consumption % of piles: 85%

Number of piles still smoldering: 28 Piles at AG Ranch / 100 Piles at Colorado Trail

Creeping beyond radiant heat footprint: 0

Potential Smoke impacts to smoke receptors (i.e. highways and/or communities): County Road 126, Hwy 285

Do fuels surrounding piles support fire? No

Patrol Status: Mod 11 and Engine 11-2 will be patrolling piles until piles are out.

Patrol needs for next operational period: None

Additional Comments: Smoke may be visible in the area and Firefighters monitor the area after burning is complete. Public and firefighter safety is always the number-one priority in burning operations. Seeing flames and smoke, even after dark, is part of normal operations.
