Evacuation warning has gone out for Eldorado Springs area – no longer pre-evacuation

Eldorado Springs area and the Sans Souci community are now under an evacuation order (no longer pre-evac). We are having trouble posting maps, but will do so as soon as we can. In the meantime, the boundaries for evacuation are:
Hwy. 93 area from Greenbelt Plateau east towards Greenbriar and Cherryvale, north of Eldorado Springs and Eldorado Canyon State Park, east side of Walker Ranch Open Space and south of Greenbriar Boulevard.

The East Boulder Community Center, 5660 Sioux Drive, is now open as an evacuation point. Evacuees are invited to go there for more information and resources. Household pets are welcome. Emergency personnel will determine shelter needs as the situation unfolds.

Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road in Longmont, is now accepting large animals. Humane Society of Boulder Valley, 2323 55th St. in Boulder, can accept smaller pets and companion animals for shelter and care.

Approximately 200 acres

Cause: Under investigation, probable origin point identified

Plan for Sunday, March 27:
About 110 firefighters working on fire
Firefighters will aim to continue to corral fire into rocks and snow, reinforce fire line to keep fire away from the City of Boulder and Eldorado Springs

2 fixed-wing air tankers will support
Crews reevaluating evacuation areas and may update as conditions change later in the day/evening

Weather will be hot and dry, with wind gusts up to 20 mph

All hiking trails in the area will remain closed

Evacuation Area:

699 housing units
836 buildings

All NCAR Fire Evacuations Lifted at 5 p.m. Sunday

All evacuees may return home but are encouraged to stay alert should conditions change.

City of Boulder lifted all evacuation notices for the NCAR Fire at 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 27. All evacuees may now return to their properties. The interactive map has been updated to reflect lifted evacuations.

With the exception of NCAR Road, all roads in the area are now open. Officials anticipate that NCAR Road will remain closed for several days. On Saturday, several people left vehicles at the NCAR trailhead. Law enforcement officials are now allowing people to retrieve their vehicles by checking in at the closure on NCAR Road.

While it is now safe to return home, people in the area of the fire should remain vigilant. Fire officials do not anticipate fully extinguishing the fire for several days. It is possible that the may city issue new evacuation orders if conditions deteriorate. #NCARFire update: shelter closing, animal/pet pickup, and trails update
March 27, 2022, 5:26 PM Alert

The evacuation shelter at East Boulder Community Center is closing at 6 p.m. The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is open until 7 p.m. tonight for evacuees to reclaim their pets, and will open again at 8 a.m. Monday. Large animals at the Boulder County Fairgrounds may be picked up 24 hours per day. The Emergency Operations Center Call Center, 303-413-7730, is closing today at 6 p.m.

Several trails to the north of Skunk Canyon are now re-opened to the public. Trails in the fire area remain closed. Updated information on trail closures is available at OSMPTrails.org. The city will assess any damage to trails and open space over the next several days.

Please note, while the evacuation of the immediate area has been lifted, we are asking residents to remain vigilant as fire officials do not anticipate fully extinguishing the fire for several days. Smoke from the area may be visible for the next several days. Please do not call 911 to report the fire.
