Summit Ranch Structure Fire Update #2: Firefighters are continuing to extinguish the fire. There is no current threat for a wildland fire. Hoselines are completely in place around the structure. Smoke and flames may be visible.
About 40 firefighters have contained a structure fire off on Interstate 70 and the Chief Hosa exit on Sept. 8.
The residents in the home in the 29000 block of Summit Ranch Drive made it out safely, there were no evacuations and the fire has been contained to the structure, so the fire has not spread, according to Mike Amdur, the Foothills Fire and Rescue public information officer.
Smoke from the blaze could be seen as far west as Idaho Springs and as far south as Evergreen Meadows.
“We’re currently in defensive operations with a large water-shuttle operation in place,” Amdur said.
Firefighters are at the scene from the Evergreen, Genesee, Pleasant View, Fairmount and Clear Creek fire departments, plus the Highland Rescue Team and Jefferson County sheriff.
Foothills received the dispatch call at 5:53 p.m., Amdur said. As of 8:30 p.m., he said it was too early to discern the extent of the damage or the fire’s cause.
