Armed Felony Suspect Leads Park County Authorities on High-Speed Chase, Ends in Serious Crash

Park County, CO – At 9:54 AM, on May 18, 2024, the Park County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Teller County Sheriff's Office regarding an armed and dangerous male suspect wanted for a felony warrant. The suspect, known to be under the influence of illegal substances and possessing a violent criminal record, was reported to be armed with a firearm.

At 11:09 AM, a Park County deputy identified the suspect on Highway 9 traveling northbound from Garo. The deputy followed the vehicle, waiting for additional units to assist with a traffic stop. At 11:25 AM, the Park County deputy, in coordination with Fairplay Police officers and Colorado State Patrol troopers, attempted to stop the vehicle, but the suspect fled.

Initiating a pursuit, law enforcement trailed the suspect through Alma, reaching speeds of up to 90 MPH, travelling up Hoosier Pass toward Breckenridge. The chase escalated dangerously as the suspect recklessly maneuvered onto opposite lanes, prompting the Park County Sheriff’s Office to halt pursuit at 11:28 AM to prevent further public endangerment.

Shortly after, at 11:40 AM, Park County Communications received reports of the suspect’s vehicle crash just north of Blue River Road in the town of Blue River. The suspect sustained serious injuries and was air-lifted to a hospital in Denver. The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
