Clear Creek County Issues Stage 2 Fire Ban

Clear Creek County, Colorado - The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has issued a Stage 2 Fire Ban for all unincorporated areas of the county. The fire ban went into effect at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, and will remain in effect until further notice. Weather and fuel conditions, nearby fire activity, and resource limitations have prompted the transition to a Stage 2 Fire Ban from the Stage 1 Fire Restrictions that were issued on July 2, 2024.

The signed Stage 2 Fire Ban Order is attached, with full details of restrictions. In short, during a Stage 2 Fire Ban, the following is prohibited:
  • No open burning, including all campfires and charcoal or wood barbeques. Campfires in a permanent grate and charcoal grills are no longer allowed. Propane or liquid-fueled grills are allowed, if attended at all times.
  • No fireworks.
  • No smoking, except within an enclosed building or vehicle, or standing in a barren area clear of all combustible material in a 6-foot diameter.
  • No off roading: cannot have or use a motor vehicle or off-highway vehicle (OHV) off roads. Exceptions: 1. parking in an area devoid of vegetation within 10 feet of the roadway or driveway serving private property, or 2. parking overnight in Forest Service developed campgrounds and trailheads. No off-road (cross country) motor vehicle travel of any kind is allowed during a Stage 2 Fire Ban.
  • No shooting.
  • For details related to chain saw, welding, and cutting torch use, see the attached Fire Ban Order.
