From the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office 2/13/26:
Update on Active Shooter at Evergreen Primary Care Facility

Jefferson County, CO. – The JCSO has new information regarding the investigation into the active shooter in Evergreen last night. The gunman has been identified as 62-year-old Lance Black (DOB 9/14/63) of Evergreen.

On February 12, 2026, at approximately 4:23 p.m., deputies responded to multiple reports of gunshots at the CommonSpirit Primary Care office located at 32214 Ellingwood Trail in Evergreen. Deputies arrived on scene at approximately 4:28 p.m. and observed broken glass windows believed to be the result of gunfire.

Deputies made entry into the health care building and located an adult male suspect inside, armed with a shotgun. Deputies attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the gunman used his shotgun to take his own life. Black had been a patient at that health care facility in the past; however, motive is still under investigation.

The medical offices and surrounding shopping center were cleared to ensure there were no victims or additional threats. Black fired approximately 19 rounds into various pieces of equipment, computers, doors, and walls. Fortunately, no one was injured. The other businesses within the strip mall were not damaged by the shooter with the exception of one round that went into a vacant office. We are confident he acted alone and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
