Evergreen Fire is en route to a reported vegetation fire about 40 square feet in size with active flames in the 2900 block of Kerr Gulch Rd in Kittredge.
From Evergreen Fire at 1:55pm:
Thank you to a heads up neighbor who called 911 after seeing flames and smoke from small wildland fire in the Kerr Gulch/Piney Ridge area.
EFR crews were able to quickly access and extinguish a 20x40’ fire that was creeping up a small ditch behind a house. Crews dug a safety line around the burned area; used water to cool hotspots; and used their hands to “cold trail” to ensure the heat was gone.
Just a few reminders:
- Mitigate around your property to ensure brush, grasses and pine needles are away from your home.
- Before disposing ashes, make sure they are cool to the touch and have been soaked/drenched by water for several days. Storing them in a metal container away from your house is also a good idea.
- Be mindful of weather conditions before you dispose of ashes or if you do something outside that could create a spark or flame. Windy, dry conditions aren’t ideal.
We are in this together to keep our mountain town safe. We are ready year round for this situation and other emergencies. #Everything4You #WildfirePrepared #Mitigation
