Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests enact Stage 2 Fire Restrictions

Fort Collins, Colorado (July 2, 2026) – Due to current conditions, the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests have enacted Stage 2 fire restrictions on national forests in Boulder, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Grand, Jefferson, and Larimer counties. Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit activities with a high potential of starting wildfires, including all campfires, smoking outdoors, and parking on grass. The purpose of these restrictions is to protect public health, safety, and natural resources by preventing wildfires.

This decision was made in collaboration with sheriff's offices, local fire districts and other federal land managers. Please check county fire restriction pages for information on how local restrictions apply to private lands.

During Stage 2 fire restrictions, open flames are not permitted anywhere on National Forest lands unless using a device fueled by liquid or gas (like propane) that can be turned on and off. These devices should only be used in areas barren of flammable materials, such as on dirt, concrete or picnic tables.

Fireworks are never allowed on National Forests.

Violation of Stage 2 fire restrictions can result in a maximum fine of $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for up to six months, or both.

Be sure to visit the Arapaho Roosevelt Pawnee Fire Restrictions page for more details on fire restrictions.

Allowed Activities Under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions
Liquid or gas fueled stoves, lanterns, or heating devices with on/off switches on surfaces cleared of all flammable materials within three feet of the device.
