JEFFERSON COUNTY - A sheriff's deputy was seriously injured and another driver was killed when they were in a head-on accident near in Conifer on Wednesday night, forcing US 285 to shut down.

The Colorado State Patrol says it happened near Eagle Cliff just before 8:30 p.m. The road was closed in both directions and traffic was being diverted to Turkey Creek Road.

The State Patrol says a driver in a Subaru Outback was going the wrong way on 285 between Eagle Cliff and Turkey Creek.

The driver of the Outback was pronounced dead at the scene and the deputy was airlifted to St. Anthony's Central with serious injuries.
