Sat., Sept. 17, 9 a.m., Lariat Loop Litter Lookout on Lookout Mountain Rd EDS Waste Solutions, Inc. Adopting 40-Mile National Scenic Byway
GOLDEN, CO – Lariat Loop is out to lasso some litter.
Lariat Loop, a new heritage, culture, arts and business membership group, has corralled an increasing amount of traveler dollars by gaining awareness for the recently designated Lariat Loop National Scenic Byway. The historic 40-mile “circle-drive” winds through much of central Jefferson County, including Golden, Morrison and Evergreen.
When it recently became a national scenic byway, Lariat Loop -- named for a lasso knot and type of ranching rope -- became the only of the nation’s 150 scenic byways that stretches across a major metropolitan region. Most are in more remote areas. Lariat Loop was created to promote Denver Mountain Parks and the surrounding region almost 100 years ago.
With increasing Lariat Loop notoriety has come increasing litter leading up to and following the recent USA Pro Cycling Challenge that was held in part on Lookout Mountain Rd.
So, EDS Waste Solutions, Inc., has selected Sat., Sept. 17, 9 a.m., as the launch of its Lariat Loop Litter Lookout campaign.Preston Loos, president, EDS Waste Solutions, Inc., will be picking up litter along Lookout Mountain Rd. on Saturday, along with leaders from Jefferson County Open Space, which first discussed increased use in the region with Lariat Loop leaders earlier this year. Joining them will be volunteers from Golden Chamber of Commerce; Rotary clubs from district 5450; EAS+Y, Evergreen’s Alliance for Sustainability; United States Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association and Rock Mountain Hang Gliding & Paragliding Association and others. Deputies from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Crime Prevention Patrol Division helped in coordinating the Saturday event.
Mark Condon, president, Lariat Loop, says the cleanup is in preparation for the Sat., Sept. 24-Oct. 30 Fall in Love with Lariat Loop promotional campaign. “We are getting ready to roll out the red carpet for Lariat Loop lovers,” said Condon.
The EDS Waste Solutions, Inc. Lariat Loop Litter Lookout Campaign will feature EDS Waste Solutions Mascot Scout the Lookout, who looks out for crime and other problems in our community (actually EDS truck drivers are trained by local public safety officials to assist with neighborhood watch activities).
