At 8 a.m. Saturday morning, while some residents of the 285 corridor were still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes, hundreds of others were gathered in a long snaking line at the King Soopers-anchored Village at Aspen Park Shopping Center in Conifer.
The occasion? The grand opening of Big R, with free gifts to the first 500 people to come in the store, plus another $15,000 in giveaways and free items from approximately 40 vendors.
Bill Briggs, operations manager for the 13 Big R stores based out of Pueblo, said on Monday that the store had 1,700 transactions on grand opening day, Nov. 19, and he estimated that that translated to about 3,800 people coming into the store, since a family of two or three might have one transaction.
