Ten years after.
The smoke has cleared long ago and still, it will be a very long time – hundreds and hundreds of years – before forests devastated by the 2002 Hayman wildfire will return to an ecosystem similar to the one that existed prior to the 137,760-acre fire north of Lake George.
So says Forester Chris Kuenner, of the U.S. Forest Service, whose responsibilities include the Pike National Forest.
However, Kuenner remained positive on an April 12 tour.
