Thanks to cooler temperatures, higher humidity, and firefighters working on the ground and in the air, as of about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, the human-caused Springer fire – 3.5 miles from Lake George in the Pike National Forest in southeastern Park County – was 39 percent contained, versus 23 percent contained at noon on Wednesday, and growth of the fire had been stopped at 1,145 acres, the same number of acres as had burned as of noon on Wednesday.
