Seniors’ Resource Center Preparing Older Adults for Emergency Situations

Evergreen Fire Rescue and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Sponsor Emergency Preparedness Meeting for Older Adults in Evergreen

Evergreen, CO, July 30, 2012 – The Seniors’ Resource Center – Evergreen (SRC) will be holding an Emergency Preparedness meeting, in collaboration with Evergreen Fire Rescue and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, on August 9, 2012 at the Seniors’ Resource Center (5120 Highway 73 Evergreen, CO 80439). The presentation is specifically designed for Older Adults (60 years and older), Adults with Disabilities, and Caregivers, focusing on the unique needs of these citizens.

The program will be led by Evergreen Fire Rescue’s Community Educator, Doug Saba. “This event is to help seniors wade through all the safety information that is out there from Federal, State, and local service organizations, funneling it to a usable message,” said Saba. Representatives from Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department will also be present to discuss safety measures and assist with Smart911 on-line registration, for those who are interested.

SRC representative Sara Garrou said, “This is an idea that developed following the recent wildfires and the implementation of the Smart911 system by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. Seniors’ Resource Center is committed to providing resources to older adults and adults with disabilities, enabling them to remain safe and independent in their own homes. This is just another way we support our community and further our mission.”

There will be two sessions, 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, to accommodate all who are interested in attending. This event is open to the public and free of charge. Advanced registration is recommended. Please contact the Seniors’ Resource Center at 303-674-2843 to register or receive more information.
