The REAL South Park Plans Mass Turnout to Support Professional Cycling on August 24th with the First Annual South Park Bike Festival
For Immediate Release
The U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge traveling through rural Colorado inspires the real South Park community to come out in force to support professional and local cycling with the First Annual South Park Bike Festival.
Although several real references to actual locations and events in the Fairplay/Alma area of Park County, CO have been depicted, the adult cartoon South Park has done little to put this community on the map. Most fans of the popular television show have very little idea that there truly is a real South Park, and it is a great place to bike, hike, fish, camp, hunt, live and work.
Local business owners and the town of Fairplay joined forces to leverage this unique opportunity of worldwide television coverage with creative ideas to show the fun and unique side of this rough and tumble former mining community.
Owners of the South Park True Value, a business depicted several times in the cartoon, and The Chocolate Bordello, a popular local artisan truffle company, spearheaded the effort.
“As avid cyclists and founders of our local cycling club, we saw this as a great opportunity to help the world get to know our community and for us to have a lot of fun. The response from our fellow businesses, the local Chamber and County and Town Governments has been fantastic. Everyone is pitching in for a great day of bike-related fun,” said Jodi Messa of the South Park True Value.
Susan Simpson of The Chocolate Bordello and co-founder of The Chocolate Bordello/South Park True Value Cycling Club concurred. “It’s exciting to see everybody contribute ideas, time and money for all the fun events we have planned. It’s a little known secret that South Park is a great place for road, mountain and BMX biking. We are hoping that many cycling fans will discover this as they stop in at the bike festival while following the race. We are the real South Park – so much more than most people imagine.”
