The Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado presents its Savvy Caregiver class at Mt. Evans Home Health and Hospice, on Wednesday, February 20 from 1-3 pm at 3081 Bergen Peak Dr. in Evergreen.
Caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease requires special skills and an attitude that contributes to the well being of both the care partner and the person with the disease. The Alzheimer’s Association’s Savvy Caregiver Program enables those providing care to gain a sense of control and mastery within the role of caregiver.
Most people involved with caring for someone with Alzheimer’s do it out of family love and a sense of obligation but have no training in how to effectively handle the challenges of this fatal disease. Providing care as the disease progresses also take a tremendous emotional, physical and financial toll on the caregiver. Savvy Caregiver helps participants learn the tasks critical to providing compassionate, competent care for those with Alzheimer’s while addressing the issues of coping and self care that are vital to maintaining a sense of well being for the care partner. The course comes complete with a manual and CD-ROM. There is no cost for this program, however, a donation of $25+ is requested to cover the cost of materials.
