Platte schools get proposed budget reduction of $705,000

At the regular meeting of the Platte Canyon School District board of education, the board heard the proposed budget for the 2013-2014 school year, safety issues in the district were brought up in public comments, the plans for the technology implementation at eighth grade was presented, and students were presented with certificates for their achievements.
Proposed budget
Jim Walpole, superintendent, gave the board the proposed budget for the 2013-2014 school year. This proposed budget of $13.3 million is a reduction of $705,000 from the $14 million budget for this school year. There is also the reduction in school funding from the state of $1.3 million due to the state’s budget shortfall, known as the “negative factor.”
