For Beth Semptimphelter, it had been just over a year since the Lower North Fork fire in the Conifer area came less than a half mile of her house on Kuehster Road that she rents out. The fire ended up killing her neighbor, Ann Appel, and two others, Sam and Linda Lucas.
The Lime Gulch fire, roughly seven miles southeast of Conifer, was started Tuesday, June 18, from a lightning strike, and it erupted from 50 acres to 500 acres in just a few hours on Wednesday afternoon, June 19. But it didn’t take nearly the same toll.
