A commission on judicial performance has recommended the retention of Park County Court Judge Brian Green by a 10-0 vote and Fairplay-based District Court Judge Stephen Groome by a 5-3 vote, with the retention recommendation for Groome "based on Judge Groome's agreement to be placed on a professional improvement plan." Details in this week's Flume.
Kick him out. He's been a judge long enough that there should be no need for a "professional improvement plan".
And an aside: The BOCC has approved placing a measure on the November ballot as follows:
CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION FOR BALLOT QUESTION REGARDING TERM LIMITS FOR THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE ELEVENTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT
Presenter: Tom LaDue, District Attorney. Lee Phillips, County Attorney.
Action: Tighe moved to approve Resolution for Ballot Question Regarding Term Limits for District Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial District as presented. Hodges seconded, carried 3-0.
LaDue and the BOCC want to remove term limits from this position. The DA should have to prove himself capable, rather than our approving another "job for life" position.
If anyone has a problem with retention make sure you are hydrated and ask your doctor to prescribe a diuretic. Justice Groome sometimes appears to be constipated. A little prune juice may help. It should not be a problem unless it affects his judgment.
As judge, perhaps he can give our district attorney and our sheriff's office some direction.
Judge Groome was one of the great independent real estate attorney in the state. He caught some disease(BOCC) and changed. Time to go
back to private practice.
Unfortunately, Groome, along with the county attorney and sheriff's office, have created some issues for the county that will likely result in some civil claims being brought against it.
Vern Wagner's case is a good example. Look for it to develop in the near future.
