Elk Creek Fire Chief Bill McLaughlin – Chief McLaughlin will present information on ECFD’s proposed 2.5 mill property tax increase. ECFD residents will vote on this issue on November 7, 2013. According to the Fairplay Flume, the “2.5 mill increase that would sunset after 10 years” and represents “a 50.1 percent increase.”
The High Timber Times reports Chief McLaughlin as saying, “if revenue does not increase, the district will be forced to shutter one of its four stations”
and ECFD board member Mike Rogers is quoted in both articles as saying service reductions would have a significant impact on insurance rates. Tom Carby of Farmers Insurance will present a general overview of fire rating systems and factors that impact fire insurance in Colorado. Mario Nicolais (Candidate for SD22) – Mr. Nicolais is a Republican candidate for Senate District 22 who is in a primary race with Tony Sanchez. Mr. Sanchez spoke at our last meeting.
Tony Fabian – Mr. Fabian is a criminal defense attorney and 2nd Amendment expert from Castle Rock who helped draft the 2003 firearms legislation on the uniform, shall-issue concealed carry of handguns. Mr. Fabian is currently involved in the federal lawsuit filed by 54 of 62 Colorado Sheriffs against the state of Colorado to fight anti-gun legislation passed in 2013.
