Elk Creek Fire looks at possible collaboration

Elk Creek Fire Protection District Chief Bill McLaughlin said the support of the community in passing a property tax increase for the district doesn’t negate the need to continue to discuss ways to operate more efficiently, including possibly sharing services with other fire protection districts. Details in this week's Flume.

I'm glad to read that they are considering additional ways to consolidate/share costs of some services that all departments have. Increased efficiency can only be good for the community.

Some of this already has been deltamrey, there are many things done, and still to be done, to save money and make the department more effective and efficient - the Chief has been talking about the efforts of all the mtn depts trying to get dispatch moved to Evergreen Fire & Rescue for over a year now because they will be better able to more quickly dispatch the closest dept and it will help the insurance rates of those who live at the border of a neighboring dept for which they currently don't get credit. The new trucks will help the other departments as well, when they go on mutual aid calls.

The bids for the new trucks are being put together now, they are getting quotes from multiple manufacturers in order to get the best price possible. The plan is to submit the bids to the Board for voting upon at the next BOD meeting, during which the 2014 budget will be approved since it's due to the state by Dec 15th. Next BOD meeting is Dec 12th. Once ordered, it will take several months for them to be built and then delivered - don't worry, I'm sure they will happily announce when that's going to happen!
