Both lanes of a section of U.S. 285 between Fairplay and Kenosha Pass were closed early Monday, and the Colorado Highway Patrol reported at 9:30 a.m. on Monday that winds had exceeded 100 mph over Kenosha Pass on U.S. 285. It warned truckers to avoid possible white-out conditions in the area.
The Colorado Department of Transportation closed U.S. 285 in both directions from mile marker 183 to 203, between Fairplay and Kenosha Pass, due to blowing wind. The road closure began at 6:58 a.m., according to the CDOT website.
Although the closure was still in effect as of 3:20 p.m. and spokesman Bob Wilson said it might remain closed until daybreak Tuesday, CDOT sent out a notification at 3:44 p.m. that the section of U.S. 285 between Fairplay and Kenosha Pass had been reopened. Details at theflume.com
