Coalition for the Upper South Platte River Executive Director Carol Ekarius stands as a sentinel who watches over the Upper South Platte River watershed, monitoring and maintaining its health through the efforts of the nonprofit organization.
Since 1998, Lake George-based CUSP has been charged with stewardship of the 2,600-square-mile Upper South Platte watershed in order to protect an area that encompasses more than 1.6 million acres of public lands.
The stated mission of CUSP is “to protect the water quality and ecologic health of the Upper South Platte watershed through the cooperative efforts of watershed stakeholders, with emphasis on community values and economic sustainability.”
In a recent end-of-the-year newsletter, Ekarius lauded the 6,113 volunteers (a new record) who have made the partnership’s many accomplishments in 2013 possible.
