Lawmakers and Gov. John Hickenlooper are looking at bills to improve Colorado’s ability to mitigate and fight wildfires this legislative session, but some of the most ambitious – and arguably controversial – measures recommended in September by a statewide task force have not been included.
The task force’s recommendations could have a major impact on many Park County homeowners living in forested areas – and residents elsewhere in Colorado – in terms of what they would pay for home insurance and steps they might have to take to create defensible space for protection against wildfires.
