Evergreen, CO (June 6, 2014) --

The aging boardwalk will be replaced

Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) will begin a major improvement project to the Boardwalk at Evergreen Lake Park on Monday, June 9. Starting on June 9, the Boardwalk will be closed to the public through approximately mid-July.

During the course of the boardwalk improvement project, users of the Evergreen Lake Trail may detour around the closed boardwalk onto the path along Bear Creek then along a marked corridor along the edge of the Lake House parking lot. The detour route will then take trail users back to the Evergreen Lake Trail near Evergreen Lake House.

Through an open bidding process, local contractor Bear Excavating was chosen to complete this important work which will improve and replace the 20-year old boardwalk. ( www.bearexcavating.com/ ). The project is being funded by EPRD, with assistance from Jeffco Parks and Open Space Grant funding.

EPRD Executive Director Scott Robson says the project will improve ADA access and seating areas along the boardwalk while not impacting the wetlands during the construction. "The project will also greatly enhance the wildlife watching platform," he added, "and we are working with the Evergreen Nature Center to install interpretive signage to educate the public about local wildlife and our surrounding environment."
