The South Park High School football team is back in action and ready to participate in its first year in the A-6 Central (six-man) football conference after suffering without the program, when the season was suspended last year.
“We are excited to be back at the high school level with the kids eager for the season,” said head coach Jim Carpenter. “At this point, we are just waiting to play our first game, so that we know it is official.”
Ineligible status
A lack of numbers on the eight-man squad along with athlete safety were the primary reasons for the postponement of last year’s season through an unanimous assessment by South Park Athletic Director Sandi Weece, Superintendent Becky Minnis, Principle Jane Newman and the football coaching staff.
“It was a very difficult situation and decision for us, but we just didn’t have the numbers last year and our primary concern is for the safety of our athletes,” said Weece.
