As if fly fishing weren’t challenging enough, wounded military veterans brought their own disadvantages to the Fourth Annual Battle at Boxwood in Shawnee on Saturday.
Joined by volunteer fly fishing guides, some famous, disabled vets were able to cast away their hardships for a day while competing for the most inches of trout landed on north branch of the South Platte River.
Altitude Sports Network was filming the one-day competition which featured 10 four-man teams, each including a professional fly fishing guide, a sponsor, a sports or entertainment celebrity and two recovering wounded veterans. The film production is slated for release on NBC Sports Network in October.
Battle at Boxwood supports the charitable organization, Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF), which in turn, benefits recovering wounded U.S. military veterans across North America.
