High noon at the Plein Air Arts Celebration

Artists had their brushes “loaded” with paint as the sun came up over Front Street in Fairplay. “Sheriff” Russell DeBaun checked his pocket watch, and at the stroke of 10 a.m. he gave the order to “paint” at the Fairplay Plein Air Arts Celebration Quick Draw Paint-Out competition on Saturday.

Some of the artists staked out locations along Front Street and inside the South Park City Museum grounds.

Lisa Rawlings was painting a landscape and building using alcohol ink on ceramic tile. Jim Redhawk chose a mountain vista working with acrylics. Pam Holmbeck used Gerrits Kasper’s 1946 Chevrolet three-quarter ton truck as a subject, working with oil on canvas.
