Elk Creek Fire Department launches Fire Explorer Program

At a time when other departments are abandoning their youth programs sighting budget constraints and liability concerns, Elk Creek Fire is beginning an ambitious program designed to give young people an opportunity to experience the thrill and adventure of the fire service.

The Elk Creek Explorers Post will be a Learning for Life program, a subsidiary of the Boy Scouts of America. The program is open to boys and girls from 15 to 20-years of age. Applicants will be required to pass a series of scholastic and physical tests. Those excepted into the program will begin training as firefighters. While they will not participate in dangerous live fire trainings, they will learn many of the same skills and technics that all Elk Creek firefighters are required to master.
This is a challenging program; it gives the Explorers real life experience and an opportunity to determine if a career in the fire and emergency services might be right for them.

Elk Creek Fire Department will be hosting an Open House on October 18, 2014, from 10:00am to 2:00pm to give young people and their parents an opportunity to learn more about the Elk Creek Fire Department Explorer Program.
