Halloween has been celebrated for nearly 3,000 years; started by the Celts to mark the end of summer growing season and the beginning of the cold, dark winter. During those first celebrations they “danced ‘round bonfires to keep evil spirits away, but left their doors open in hopes that the kind spirits of loved ones might join them around their hearths,” according to New York’s University of Albany website.
These days it’s a time to dress up, dance, carve pumpkins and eat candy. There is no shortage of opportunities for all ages to celebrate Halloween in Park County this year.
