Over the past few months artists and crafters have been creating and decorating soup-sized bowls for the Mountain Resource Center’s annual Empty Bowls fund raising campaign.
Marilyn Saltzman said last year’s Empty Bowls event raised over $18,000 and designated for “funds that help families.”
The Empty Bowls project was developed in Michigan by Lisa Blackburn and art teacher John Hartom in 1990. It was designed as an innovative approach for artists to address hunger.
Since then it has the concept has been adopted by organizations across the United States and other countries. Each group organizing the event designs it around the needs of their own community.
