On the morning of Thursday, Dec. 4, Park County Search and Rescue, Lake George Fire, Ute Pass Ambulance, Flight for Life and Buckley Air Force Base teamed up to rescue a 21-year-old male from Colorado Springs who had fallen on the rocks near Pilot Peak.

Early that morning, nine men from Colorado Springs set off on a hike from a parking spot on County Road 211 near Lake George. This area includes extreme terrain with severe rock formations covering the steep hillsides, which are also covered with thick downfall in places.

It was a hike they had done several times before and they were familiar with the area.

When the group approached the top and were scrambling on the upper rocks, one of the young men fell 25 feet onto solid rock.
A member of the group they immediately called 911 from a mobile phone. Park County Dispatch and Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener swiftly organized resources to assist in the situation.
