Between January 2013 and June 2014, the Colorado Department of Transportation reported six accidents along the Shaffers Crossing section of U.S. Highway 285 near Pine Junction.
Two lives were lost Saturday as a result of a crash at Shaffers Crossing. Less than 24 hours later, another two-car accident closed the highway near the same area.
Trooper Nathaniel Reed with the Colorado State Patrol reported a 2000 Jeep Cherokee traveling southbound in the single lane toward Shaffers Crossing veered over the double yellow lines into the northbound lanes, hitting a 1999 Buell motorcycle, throwing its two riders off the bike Saturday, March 21.
