The stories are many: a horse found alive, frozen in place on the ground; a starving horse neglected by its absentee owner; or the family in crisis that bit off more than it could chew.
Kimberly Kissmann, chairperson of the board for Far View Horse Rescue, can tell you these stories and dozens more.
Her Breckenridge-based non-profit has been saving horses and educating the public on horse care for more than five years.
Kissmann is a former elementary school teacher and she has been able to mix her love for rehabilitating horses and teaching children life lessons. In 2012, she was awarded the David Olbright Outstanding Youth Mentor award by the Summit Foundation.
