Park County commissioners discussed a proposed 2015 ballot question that would impose a five percent excise tax on the first sale or transfer of unprocessed marijuana by licensed cultivation operations on June 25.
If passed by voters, the tax will apply to all cultivation, including that grown by licensed retail stores for their own retail sales.
The question also states that any excise tax collected within the towns of Alma or Fairplay would be dispersed to the town where it was received.
This year the state passed legislation allowing local governments to impose up to an additional five percent excise tax on marijuana cultivation. The state currently charges a 15 percent excise tax on operations.
