On the morning of July 9, about 9 a.m., Platte Canyon Fire Protection District received a transmission from Fairplay communications that a decaying body had been found by a hiker about three miles southwest from the Rolling Creek and Colorado Trail trailhead, in the Lost Creek Wilderness area near Bailey.
The body was of missing Nebraska teen, Jason Berglund.
Berglund left his home town, Alliance, Neb., Oct. 22, 2014. His car was seen at the Colorado Trail access on County Road 68 in Bailey two days later. Five days later the car was still there. He would have been 19 years old May 21.
Captain Mark Hancock and Detective Dave Leffler arrived at the trailhead a little before 10 a.m. Hancock was the incident commander. The parking lot at the trailhead quickly filled with personnel from the sheriff’s office.
