Every five years for the last two decades, the Jefferson County Commissioners have made a concerted effort to find out what is on the minds of citizens by conducting a random-sample, statistically-valid survey. The last survey was completed in 2010.
A cross section of 3,000 residents of unincorporated Jefferson County will soon receive the 2015 survey questionnaire in their mailboxes. A bright yellow postcard has been mailed to the 3,000 households chosen at random by zip code, alerting them that the survey questionnaire will be coming to them soon.
Results of previous surveys have been useful in budgeting and planning for future needs. The surveys assessed the opinions of a representative sample of unincorporated residents about community quality of life, service delivery, civic participation and priorities for their tax dollars.
Jefferson County residents in the past have rated the overall quality of life in Jeffco very high. They also have identified areas that need more attention.
Jefferson County has contracted with the National Research Center to conduct and analyze the survey. Headquartered in Boulder, the company partners with the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) to conduct surveys for cities and counties across the country. This provides a benchmark to compare Jeffco with cities and counties across the country. Boulder, Douglas and Larimer Counties and Arvada, Golden, Lakewood and Wheat Ridge have all done citizen surveys with this company.
