New track at Como depot taking shape

The Denver South Park and Pacific Historical Society is one step closer to having narrow gauge track laid in front of the Como depot in time for Boreas Pass Railroad Day 2015.

There was a crew of club members and railroad enthusiasts working to build the new track July 18. The DSPPHS has rounded up the railroad ties and rail needed to complete the project for the official dedication of the restored 1879 depot.

Como was a major division point for the Denver, South Park and Pacific narrow gauge railroad, which ran from Union Station in Denver to Park County. A hotel serviced travelers, a roundhouse maintained the engines and rolling stock and passengers could transfer to other lines going north, south and west through the county.

When The Flume visited the work site, there were six volunteers grading the ground in front of the depot in preparation for laying the railroad ties. The rail was acquired from the Breckenridge Heritage Alliance. It has been stored at the High Line Railroad Park in Breckenridge.
