County applies for third broadband grant

At its regular weekly meeting, July 30, the Park County Board of County Commissioners approved submitting a third grant application to Colorado Department of Local Affairs to bring one gigabit broadband service to government offices, schools and special districts in the Bailey and Fairplay/Alma areas.

The current application is phase three of a four-phase project. All three grants require a 50 percent match from Park County.

If the phase three grant is received, the funds will provide a fiber optic network to 20 government buildings in Fairplay including county facilities, schools, fire departments, ambulance and recreation district facilities as well as Town of Fairplay municipal locations.

The cost of the project is $750,000 with the state and county providing $375,000 each. Park County RE-2 School district is providing $30,000 toward connecting its facilities.
