The Rotary Club of Evergreen Announces its 2015 Legacy Project.

At its meeting on Friday September 25th, members of The Rotary Club of Evergreen cast their votes for which of three nominated projects would receive their $30,000 funding for the Rotary Club’s annual ‘Legacy Project’

The selection process began back in January when a committee of seven Evergreen Rotarians put in place a plan to publicize the Legacy initiative to the Evergreen community, receive applications for consideration and narrow down the number of projects submitted to a final three. The final three presented to the club members at their meeting on September 25th and the members voted for the Evergreen Rotary Musical Park to be the Legacy Project for 2015, as submitted by Kay La Montagne of Mountain Home. The Center for the Arts new building remodeling and The Drive Smart seatbelt awareness program were the other two projects that were presented at the meeting.

The primary objective of funding annual Legacy Projects is to provide benefit to the members of the community and make Evergreen an even better place to live. A secondary benefit is the increased public awareness of the Rotary Club of Evergreen which helps its fundraising efforts and stimulates the recruitment of new, effective club members.

Evergreen Rotary Club Legacy Projects provide long-lasting benefits or services to our community and are sustainable. Previous years Legacy Projects include:
  • Remodeling of the Easter Seals Cabin ($11,000 and 700 hours of voluntary labor).
  • Building the Center Stage’s new 1,200 sq ft lobby ($65,000)
  • ‘The Sentry’ Sculpture ($19,000)
The winning project was The Evergreen Rotary Musical Park. Kay La Montagne first came across a ‘Musical Park’ while camping in Moab. It is an outdoor ‘musical playground’ with instruments that are designed with acoustic precision and perfect tone by a Grammy Award winning musician, and are built to maintain pure and soothing tones through years of rigorous play and exposure to the elements of nature. They are perfect for musical beginners and experts alike. If you go to freenotesharmonypark.com/ you can watch videos that demonstrate the concept.

The sculptural elegance and flowing lines are a fine addition to either a sophisticated landscape or urban outdoor setting. A broad color palette is available offering options to awaken the senses with bright primaries, or neutrals that blend subtly into any environment.

A collection of these outdoor instruments delivers engaging interactive art to complement a wide variety of outdoor settings. They are both working sculptures and true percussion instruments. Their allure draws in children and adults alike, to play and to enjoy, creating a full sensory experience.

Musical knowledge or skill isn’t necessary in order to create beautiful sounds; the instruments are orchestrated to be forever pleasing to the ear; for both the players and those listening nearby. Evergreen’s Musical Park will inspire the love of music and joyful play among children.

The Evergreen Parks and Recreation Board has given their approval to place these out door instruments at Stagecoach Park. The Rotary Musical Park will meet all Jefferson County sound ordinances and the instruments are made of steel, are winterized and easy to maintain.

Evergreen Rotary Club will have a modest token of recognition for creating this Legacy Project by posting a sign in the park for Rotary’s renowned four-way test:
Of the things we think, say or do:
First: Is it the TRUTH?
Second: Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Third: Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Fourth: Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Also, at the same meeting, $5,000 of funding was awarded to the Outdoor Lab Foundation. These funds will contribute to the building of an aquaponics greenhouse at the Mount Evans and Windy Peak Outdoor Lab campuses. The greenhouses will provide a ‘Seed-To-Table’ program touching more than 6,800 students a year.
